A phone ringing in the middle of the night always leaves me terrified. Heart pounding. Cold sweat. The works. Last night was no exception, although in the end, the news wasn’t tragic as much as worrisome. Already the week feels slightly off-kilter. The kids are home from school starting Wednesday. Family begins arriving tomorrow, and soon after, life will devolve into complete chaos. Fun chaos, but still.

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Americans. I may not be back to say that on Thursday.

Good news on the writing front. Carina has offered on another novella of mine—always gratifying. And the collaboration I’ve been involved with may soon find a home as well. Also, of course, today is release day for 40 Souls to Keep.

All in all, I have a lot to be thankful for. Every year on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, my kids and I help at our township food bank, preparing and distributing a holiday meal. The kids love it. It’s gratifying because their efforts produce tangible results.

Thanking people who support my writing career isn’t as simple. I often wish I could give something tangible, but most of the time all I can do is say thank you. Thanks to the readers who read and review. No work is universally loved, and I respect that. Thanks, especially, to those who have been with me for the long haul. I rely on you more than you realize.

Thanking people who support my writing career isn’t as simple. I often wish I could give something tangible, but most of the time all I can do is say thank you.

Personally I consider the priviledge of reading your books the best thank you :)
This goes for all of you writers who put your work out there some way or the other

Those middle of the night phone calls are terrible; I'm not happy you have worrisome news, but glad it wasn't worse.

SWEET, That's quite awesome. I of course would be interested in your book, but I don't have an e-reader so I don't do the digital book thing yet. Give me another 5 years, I'll catch up with technology eventually.

It's true that not everyone will love what you do, even in a genre as small as ours, but I always think as long as you can say you've given your best and told the story you wanted to tell, then people should respect that.

Love that you take your kids to the food bank. My volunteering of late has been sitting on a board, which is work and necessary and we manage to raise and give away money to places like the food bank, but its a bit removed. Does your youngest participate, btw? I want my brother to do stuff like that with my nephew, who is five.

I started taking the kids several years ago when i sensed they were starting to take a lot of what they have for granted. It's helped put things in perspective. :)

The visits are always fun, just crazy!

I was notified by Amazon at midnight that 40 Souls was delivered to my Kindle and I have to work today, Darn! I'll start tonight, and will probably be up to the wee hours of the morning, somehow I can't put down your work.

Enjoy your Turkey Day and all the chaos it implies with having a houseful of family members. Enjoy the time with your kids at the food bank, I'm baking pumpkin pies for one of the shelters providing dinner for LGBT homeless youth.

Happy Thanksgiving! I think that it's really sweet that you & your family volunteers at the food bank. That's a good tradition. I always mean to get my butt over to the Alcatraz Sunrise Gathering but it always seems to sell out before I can get to it.

I really loved Great Restorations, so I would love to read 40 Souls & be entered in the drawing. The plot sounds super exciting!
